Storage calculation
Gross Weight or Chargeable Weight of loads defines the value to be paid for transportation, in accordance with its modality, in addition to be an important factor for its handling and goods transportation.
Load transportation is charged in accordance with the goods weight or space it occupies, always it is larger.
Know how to make these calculations and predict your transportation expenses, finding out if your load has or has not chargeable weight.
Chargeable weight is calculated by multiplying the measures of Length x Width x Height (LWH) of each volume to be transported.
Examples:
Box with 5 kg gross weight:
Length | Height | Width |
---|---|---|
0,40 | 0,40 | 0,40 |
Result: 0,064m3 |
Cylinder with 1,500 kg gross weight:
Length | Diameter | Width |
---|---|---|
2,100 m | 1,000 m | 1,000 m |
Resultado: 2,100 m3 |
For cylindrical volumes, the diameter is multiplied twice.
AIR Calculation
In air transportation, in accordance with IATA regulation, an aircraft bears 166.66 kg in 1 cubic meter, it means, ration of weight/volume is 1:6.
Calculation is always the same: X m³ x166.66 Kg
Returning to the given examples, we observe the relation between Gross Weight and Chargeable Weight ratio in air transportation:
Type | Gross Weight | Chargeable | Chargeable Weight |
---|---|---|---|
Box | 5 Kg | 0,064 m3 | 10,66 Kg |
Cylinder | 1.500 Kg | 2,10 m3 | 349,98 Kg |
For application of transportations fees (chargeable weight) the larger weight always prevails. In the case of box, it will be the CHARGEABLE WEIGHT, and in cylinder will be GROSS WEIGHT.
SEA Calculation
In sea transportation, for convention 1 ton is equal to 1 m³.
Returning to the given examples, we observe how the Gross Weight and Chargeable Weight ratio in sea transportation is:
Type | Gross Weight | Chargeable | Chargeable Weight |
---|---|---|---|
Box | 5 Kg | 0,064 m3 | 1 Ton |
Cylinder | 1.500 Kg | 2,10 m3 | 2,10 Ton |
In case of SEA transportation, the calculation is simple. 1 cubic meter is always considered equal to 1 ton. In case of box, the minimal fee will be charged, which can vary from ½ and 1 ton, in accordance with the sea company to be used. In case of cylinder, the chargeable weight will be 2.10 tons, although the load has GROSS WEIGHT of 1.5 tons.
